What is LUFS?
Loudness Units relative to Full Scale: a measure of perceived loudness used to set consistent levels for streaming, broadcast and podcasts.
Unlike peak level, LUFS reflects how loud audio sounds to a listener over time. Many streaming platforms normalise playback to a target around −14 LUFS, and podcasts are commonly mastered around −16 LUFS for stereo; broadcast standards such as EBU R128 specify −23 LUFS.
Mastering to the right target avoids content being turned down or sounding quieter than everything around it.
